ReAlpha 0.1.5 Update Release Notes
Update Overview
We have just released Infinitum ReAlpha 0.1.5
This update introduces the Prologue, the opening chapter of the story and the first playable look at the new direction of Infinitum.
It is a short experience, but it shows the tone, atmosphere, and presentation we want to build on from here. It also introduces new mechanics, narrative sequences, the reworked Hound, and several gameplay interactions that will continue to grow in future updates.
The Prologue
The Prologue marks the beginning of Infinitum’s story.
During this opening chapter, players step into the role of Chris, whose journey begins deep underground inside the Mining Cave. The experience slowly builds tension as players explore the environment and encounter the first dangers of this world.
While short in length, the Prologue establishes the atmosphere, pacing, and narrative direction that will guide the rest of the game.
Narrative Sequences
This update also introduces a new system that we've been working on which is the Narrative Sequences System, a new way we present parts of the story.
These are short narrated moments made from hand-drawn illustrations (so everything is hand drawn and no AI used for these at all), voice narration, and music, appearing at the beginning and end of the Prologue. They act like small visual montages that explain key moments of the story without interrupting gameplay.
We chose this approach so we can tell a larger and more complex story efficiently, without relying on heavy animated cutscenes. It allows us to expand the narrative more often while keeping development focused on gameplay and world building. The Narrative Sequences have a minimal UI where you can change the volume of the narration and also a skip button by holding the interact key. We know some players don't care about the story and just want to jump right in and figure things out at their pace, we want to support both gameplay directions.
The Hound Reimagined
This update also introduces a completely reimagined version of The Hound entity.
The Hound is an extremely aggressive creature that hunts players relentlessly once encountered. It is designed to create moments of panic and pressure, forcing players to react quickly and navigate the environment while being pursued.
Its behavior, presence, and encounters are built around tension and sudden escalation, making it one of the first major threats players will face in the game.
New Jumpscare Animations
We believe the way players die is an important part of the horror experience, so we plan to invest a lot of our limited resources into creating strong jumpscare animations.
The Prologue introduces new jumpscare animations when The Hound catches you.
Depending on how the encounter happens, the animation will change. If the Hound catches you from the front or from behind while you’re running away, a different jumpscare will play.
Updated Character Model
For some time now, we’ve been planning and working on a new player character model, which we were finally able to implement in this update. While it’s not fully finished yet, it’s already very close to the look and equipment style we’re aiming for. The design better reflects the explorers navigating the Backrooms and will continue to evolve alongside the rest of the game’s systems as development moves forward.
New Gameplay Interactions
To diversify gameplay, this update introduces several interactive mechanics players will encounter throughout the Prologue.
These include:
• Lockpicking minigames used to open secured paths
• Quick Time Events that appear during the Minecart scene
• Environmental interactions like breaking planks that require quick reactions from the player
These systems are designed to make exploration more dynamic and add variety to the challenges players face while progressing through the Prologue.
Multiplayer Status
At the moment, multiplayer is not available for the Prologue experience. We disabled it in order to start working towards the Implementation of Epic Online Services (EOS). This will give us more freedom and a future possibility of crossplay, which isn't 100% guaranteed as of now but it's something we would love to achieve.
The Prologue is designed as a focused introduction to the story and the new systems introduced in ReAlpha.
Multiplayer will return in a few months as a different update as development continues and additional content is implemented.
